The Waiting Heart

Advent begins in the quiet. In the waiting.

And waiting is never easy.

I don’t know what you’re waiting for this year. Maybe it’s healing. Reconciliation. An answer. Maybe your hands are open and empty, or maybe they’re clenched around something you can’t seem to release.

Advent reminds us that the people of Israel waited for generations. Longing for a Saviour. Living under promises passed down like hand-me-down coats—worn thin, but still wrapped around them for warmth. It would’ve been easy to think the silence meant God had forgotten.

But He hadn’t. He never does.

Advent is the assurance that even in the silence, God is at work. Even when we can't see it, He is moving.

Waiting also requires trust. The kind of trust that Joseph had that God would fulfill his promise to not only his people Israel, but also to himself. Trust that God would make all things well. Eventually.

This week, I invite you to lean into the waiting. Don’t rush past it. Let it tenderise your heart. Let it shape your prayers. Let it remind you that God’s promises are not bound by our timelines.

He is coming.

Even now.

Reflection verse:

“I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.” — Psalm 130:5
